The biggest change we've made is to the guestbooks. Fotolog has been getting more and more popular and we've been seeing more complaints about guestbook spam. From now on, you'll need to be a logged in member to leave a guestbook message - which should help cut down on anonymous junkmail.
We're going to be testing the new page out for the next couple weeks to make absolutely sure it gets along nicely with our servers (early results have been great - the new page should really improve server performance and help the site run faster and better) so you might see the new page on some visits and the classic page on other visits.

está menos ordenado que el anterior, y visualmente pierde legibilidad. además abusa de los márgenes laterales, que son excesivos, al igual que carece de interlineados apropiados. también quedan muy mal las líneas discontinuas
en mi opinión funciona peor que la plantilla tradicional. espero que rectifiquen :)

El mayor cambio que hemos hecho, es para los Guestbooks. Fotolog se ha hecho más y más popular y hemos buscado cómo evitar spams. Desde ahora, tendrás que estas logueado para dejar un comentario, lo que evitará los mensajes anónimos.
Estaremos probando la nueva página por el próximo par de semanas para estar seguros de que es totalmente compatible con nuestos servidores (hasta ahora los resultados han sido buenos, los servidores soportan e incluso va más rápido y mejor), por lo que quizás en algunas páginas podrás ver el nuevo diseño y en otras el clásico.

I think the new design is less attractive because it's more cluttered, but maybe the added functions will make the trade-off worthwhile.
One technical complaint: when I type in a Guestbook box, the on-screen response lags behind my typing, and the words flash as I type them. I hope this can be fixed.

but i have friends without a fotolog account that leave comments in my photos, thats so bad!!! i want that all my friends can leave his messages, my uncles and my aunts for exemple they dont have fotologs acounts....

I have the new version on my fotolog, and I don't like it either:
* Too busy - the simple layout has always been fotolog's best feature, better than Flickr.
* Too many options I don't need on every screen - I already know how to translate with Google, and I don't need mini-cards or email postcards.
* It's already a choice to allow only members to post, there's no need to make it a law. We've seen too much of this - removing freedoms to protect the squeamish.

Como probablemente te has dado cuenta, hemos estado probando una nueva version de la pagina de fotos de miembros basica de fotolog. Si tu eres uno de los afortunados miembros en haber obtenido la prueba de la pagina, habras visto el nuevo y mas limpio diseño, y los practicos links auxiliares para cambiar de idioma (English, Español, or Português) justo en la parte de arriba de la pagina.
El mas grande cambio que hemos hecho es en los libros de visita. Fotolog se ha hecho mas y mas popular, y hemos estado recibiendo cada vez mas quejas sobre el SPAM en los libros de visita. De ahora en adelante, tendras que ser un miembro conectado de fotolog para dejar un comentario en los libros de visita - lo cual deberia ayudar a terminar con los correos anonimos basura.
Vamos a estar probando la nueva pagina de fotolog por las proximas semanas para estar absolutamente seguros que se acopla bien con nuestros servidores (los resultados preliminares han sido muy buenos - la nueva pagina deberia mejorar la funcionalidad del servidor y ayudar a que el sitio funcione mejor y mas rapido) asi que veras la nueva pagina en algunas visitas y la clasica en otras .

I prefer the old desing. The new is very barroque, very 'charged' of things... The photos have less and less space (visual space) in the Fotolog web...
And I think that 'strangers' should can write in the guestbooks. The solutions for 'aliens' is to erase their maessages. I don't see any difficulties in that. But with the new meassure, family and friends that see the photos won't can write comments. I don't like it :-(
I suppose the effort in the change is so big that you won't stop it now... Good luck.

I agree with /treebeard. The simplicity of the page is one of the best features. The new headings are obtrusive, especially the Guestbook one. Plain lines separating the guestbook comments is cleaner and the dotted line round the little box under the photo is unnecessary and distracting. Also with the new format when you move the cursor over the pic it's too easy for someone to copy it and then maybe post it elsewhere.
Didn't really want to be negative. Thanks for putting in a 'back to top' button, that is useful.

Si tú eres uno de los afortunados miembros que poseen la página de prueba, has visto el nuevo y más ordenado diseño de la misma y los útiles links para cambiar los idiomas (Inglés, Español, o Portugués) en la parte superior de la página.
El mayor cambio que hemos hecho es con los libros de visita. Fotolog se ha estado volviendo más y más popular y hemos visto más quejas acerca del spam en los libros de visita. A partir de ahora, necesitarás ser un miembro loggueado para dejar un mensaje en el libro de visitas - lo cual debería ayudar a reducir el correo basura anónimo.
Estaremos testeando la nueva página durante las próximas semanas para estar absolutamente seguros de que se adapta a nuestros servidores (los resultados recientes han sido buenos - la nueva página realmente debería mejorar el rendimiento del servidor y ayudar al sitio a funcionar más rápido y mejor) de modo que podrían ver la nueva página en algunas visitas y la página clásica en otras.

The page is too cluttered. It's lost the beautiful simple look it had. All that writing under the photo separates my caption from the image.
The writing is too small and there doesn't seem to be the option of a bigger print size. Not good for my friend with a vision problem.
Friends without fotologs can no longer comment. That's really disappointing. I can delete spam but I can't conjure up contact with non members.

I first thought, it's only a mistake. the new site has too much informations on too little space, all is much too close together, it's very messy and no longer that nice minimal, but effektive look it used to be. I still hope that the old version will stay...

Well... I've had the new design on my flog.
As a first impression I need to say, that it wastes a lot of space, as it displays everything in the "center". I was quite happy to get the old design back.
I DO NOT LIKE FOTOLOG's NEW STYLE BECAUSE I AM GOLD CAMERA AND HAVE TO ANSWER MANY POST, AND NOW I CANNOT ANSWER VERY FAST BECAUSE IT SAYS "sorry you do not be able to raise texts so quickly " AND THEN I HAVE TO WAIT AS 10 SECONDS IN EVERY PAGE FOR A POST!

In my opinion the new version of fotolog is worst than the other. The last one, was mor clear to find things, and t seems to be biger than the newest.

Old good fotolog is beautiful. No need for new format.
Fotolog is Fotolog because of that. If you want to work on something, try to improve the server's performance, not the appearance (that is perfect).
the old layout is better. this new one is to compact with 'to much' information, and that let's the user a little confuse. fonts with same size is not a good idea. fonts 12px? pff. come on guys, don't complicate, simplify is better ;)

but I'd like to ask u to change or review our payment methods.
Me and all of my friends are having problems with payment via Paypal. We always got a message saying "our credit card number is already in use by another Paypal account or is invalid". But we know it's not. I use to buy lots of t-shirts in foreign sites and I never had problems with my credit card. Some friends are also closing their fotologs because paying Gold Camera is getting kinda impossible from Brazil. I sent an e-mail 3 days ago to your support department and I got a reply saying that u're sorry about that but I had to call to USA and talk to Paypal support or visit them because it's not your fault... Well, I'm in Brazil and I haven't got a nice English speaking to tell'em my problem.
I really hope u solve our problem about payment, because definitely Paypal is not working properly.

No! I dont agree with non members not being able to post! It spoils most of the fun! Most of my friends are non members!
Opened up and thought that my PC had a problem. Now I know that it's you messing around with the format. I now have a large blank margin down each side of the page. Yes I do have a widescreen and I'm sure many others do too. The post that mentions mobile phone format has got it right. The thumbnails now seem to be smaller. Why the box around the info below main picture? Get rid of the Mini card. I thought that Gold members had "no ads" as one of the "advantages". If the box is needed you could at least put the picture title in it. Some people may want some of the things you're adding, Stats, Subscribe to feeds, language option, etc. but its all unnecessary clutter if you don't. If you really must have these please allow us to choose to have them there via set-up in our account. I would delete these so that my screen could look clean and uncluttered. If you could choose a second colour for selected text you could lose it by making it the same colour as the background.
Fotolog is for pictures, not text!
Members should make the choice as to who can post to their Fotolog.
So, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Fine tuning is OK but you should be able to opt out of add-ons you don't want or need.
Main problem - "My Fotolog" squashed into the middle of the page. This comment page is correct and takes up the whole width of the screen and that's how it should be!
Verdict? - Thumbs down at the moment....

Just letting you know I enjoy the new layout but like many others I am displaying all my pics of my trip away and I require my friends to leave comments. I paid money to be a Gold Card member for the ability to moderate this feature and I am extremely un-happy that all my friends back home can not comment on my pictures. They all don't want to me members and all you will create from this is heaps of dud accounts created by people just wishing to post.
Again I must say I enjoy the layout but please give my friends and many others the ability to communicate on pictures. Gold Card Members can delete comments anyway so why have visitors blocked from writing comments to begin with.

I'm not quite sure if you guys are actually gonna read this mild post, but I'll give it a shot:
My name is Aikana, I'm from Uruguay, a small little country at the south of Brazil and next to Argentina.
I'll come out and say a couple of constructive critics.
- First of all, I do think that the caption is too tight in between the rectangle and the Guestbook. There should be more space between them, otherwise it's way too confusing to read. Specially for the Gold Camera members.
- The rectangle is oversized for that information and it's an unnecesary eye candy.
- The text box at the Guestbook is great, it helps a lot if someone is trying to make a large post. Also the "Back to top" button beneath it's cool, as it's more comfortable when there are LOTS of post.
- The "Leave a message" button is the ultimate shortcut haha, great job there!
- The 3D gold camera is also nice. Way 2 go ;)!
- I think that it is plenty enough that WE can decide who posts or not at the Preferences menu. Anyone can lock their GB to certain groups. You are just deciding for ourselves when we could decide who post us on our own.
There's a concept in marketing called "KISS": "Keep It Simple Stupid". And there are a couple of upgrades in this beta version that should be tainted in that spirit, such as the first two items that I've listed above.

which is a brazilian version of fotolog that no one likes.
i have to say... as a gold member of the brazilian
community in fotolog.com, that i've been seeing losts of
posts of other gold members about their dislike of this
new layout. i think i represent most of the brazilian
community in this web page by saying that the layout
should be changed back to normal.
my suggestion is to keep the links but make the page the
way it was before... a clean version like it has always
been. most of my friends actually changed to fotolog.com
because they tought it's layout was 'chic' and more elegant
than other blogs, flogs, etc.

It is a very sad fact to disable the fotolog guestbook for entries other than fotolog members !!! This option was favoured by me very much . If you disable it it makes me very sad. The people who receive spam are always those who register everywhere in the net , and who are memebrs in a million web-pages. If they receive spam it is often their own fault. I also received SOME spam in my guestbook, but since I am able to delete it, I found it a minor threat . . .Please give us back the open guestbook , available for EVERYONE

Look. The new VERSION (Because is a version, not a Model like everybody say) really isn't good for anybody. But I'm goona tell you something. I like it. You may think I'm crazy or you may think that I'm just Liyng but, I don't find any bad thing in this version. Maybe the guestbooks are more slow for posts and that thinggs but the desing and the interface doesn't make me feel bad :) NOW, There's just ONE problem, that is the only thing that let me down about Fotolog2, it is that the people wothout Fotolog Account can't let me messages in my GuestBook. YOU Have to undersand that NOT every people like to have a Fotolog, and you are being bas persons doing that with the guestbook. Don't like at all because "anonymous" people are not able to leave their messages.. c'mon!! that's what OPTIONS are for..
At least be honest and say that you want to get more and more users forcing them to register so they may leave a message..
I, for one, do not like that policy at all.
i like this new design more than the older one, because
i hate spam, and the gbook load faster now. One thing
that i'm disagree is the borders of some sections
but that it'd easily disabled.

this new fotolog is terrible and horrible. I just prefer de last version. it's a big problem that people who haven't got a fotolog can't post. it's not really a fancy idea. Please, return to the old version. Besides, it looked like better.
Hello, back from holidays I found the new look of the page... and I would like to tell you that I do not like it at all! All those informations and options to click on make the side too compressed and ugly. Why can't the language option be in "My account" for example!? And that box under the photo separates the caption from it, that's a pity! And we do yet have the option to choose who is allowed to post in our guestbook in the "Preferences", so why only members are able to post now!? I chose "Anyone" and did not make bad experiences with it, and if there is spam I delete it...
Please think about the new version the "old" style has been what I and so many others prefered!

Kind Fotolog's webmasters,
I am writing this email due to a malfuncioning of my fotolog's webpage. This malfunctioning started one week ago, matching the layout change. The main issue is related to the guestbook: it is not allowed to non-fotologgers to write any comment or message, although I set the oppostite.
This looks like a way to push people opening new accounts and I think this is not fair; besides that, who, didn't open any account so far, wouldn't open one just to sign as a guest.
The target you are reaching for the moment is to make fotologgers and non-fotologgers unhappy.
Another issue is the malfunctioning during the upload; your server is responding with errors and this is causing waste of time and makes me upset. Also the most of the times it is impossible to upload the pictures at all!
I hope this are temporary issues due to the layout change and my hope is that you are working out these problems in order to fix them.
I am a Gold Camera Member, meaning that I am paying for a service I am not getting now. If this issues keep existing I will step back to a 'normal' fotolog user status, because it is worthless paying for not getting any good service.
I wait for a fast and clear answer from you.

The new version is OK...
My suggestion is to make a visual division between the "blog" field and the guestbook one.
It gets confusing to watch both fields with so similar font color and type...

Also, I would like to say that I'm having serious problems to upload my pictures, always appears an error from the server and as you are testing fotolog I think that there might be a problem and the service is very slow right now.

The new version looks fine...seems to have a lot of issues with uploading and guestbook posting.
Many times I have to try to upload a photo 2-3 times, especially with the group fotologs.
And before this hardware failure...frequently had trouble posting...most of the time would recieve an error msg.

No me gusta la nueva forma de fotolog, pero existen ventajas como: llevar un conteo de post en cada foto y el lugar de cada fotolog. El resto no me gusta.

i believe the changes are fine, specially the new additions to the guestbooks however, the page doesn't look nice if the resolution is greater than 1024px. With the old style, the layout seemed to addapt much better to different resolutions and didn't come out all compressed in the middle of the screen on wider monitors.
